While New Orleans may have the most famous place to host Carnival in the United States, the celebration takes place all over the world. If you like a big party and want a chance to soak up some colorful local culture, here are some great carnivals to visit. One crazier than the other. These are the best places to celebrate Carnival this year!

    Venice Italy
The Carnival of Venice is a party with style: beautiful dresses and costumes, combined with the well-known white masks. From completely white with the perfect red lips to brightly colored and hugely feathered, everyone wears one. Exciting but somewhat mysterious…

    Rio de Janeiro Brazil
The most famous carnival in the world cannot be missing from this list. In Rio de Janeiro there are big street parties everywhere, and surely you will not lack for samba music. Dance from party to party, but don’t miss the big parade. Literally the whole city is celebrating. It is an event that you must go to once in your life!
    basel, switzerland
The locals also call the Basel carnival: The 3 best days of the year. During these days everything is humor, but you can also enjoy beautiful performances and parades. Especially the skins everyone wears are fan-tas-tic! This party is a little different than usual.
    Mazatlan – Mexico
In warm Mexico you will find the city of Mazatlán, home to the third largest carnival in the world. Don’t miss the two big parades that run along the 20 kilometer boulevard. Carnival in Mazatlán is a huge explosion of color!
    New Orleans
If you don’t want to travel far this year, Mardi Gras is the carnival event to go to in New Orleans, once led by a French-Canadian explorer from Europe, from Italy to be precise. Take a look at one of the many parades, with beautifully decorated cars and welcoming music.
