There are many things that make men attractive, not just abs, and you’d be surprised how those criteria differ around the world.
You might think that there are universal standards of beauty, at least for men, but you’d be wrong. Hollywood has managed to brainwash us a little, but not to its full extent. While a certain level of fitness is welcomed in most countries, it is far from a requirement for most of us, because we know that we can’t expect everyone to have six-pack abs at all times. But there are other things that make men attractive, not just abs, and you’d be surprised how those criteria differ around the world. What is considered fashionable AF in one country may not be attractive in another. Let’s take some loot, shall we?
USA
So let’s start with the United States as the most obvious. We all know the type. The beauty standard for men here is pretty typical: big, strong, tall men, with visible muscles (we’re talking big arms and ideally abs) and lusciously styled hair. When it comes to fashion, America doesn’t demand much from men. A good pair of skinny jeans with a flannel shirt or t-shirt will do the trick.
India
India’s idea of an attractive man is very evident in Bollywood movies. Fit, muscular guys with meticulously gelled hair and some facial hair. Unbuttoned shirts are almost mandatory to show off those pecs. Oh, and interestingly, Indian men are expected to shave to remove excess hair from their body.
Sweden
One would expect the Vikings to be the ultimate target, but the age of the Vikings has passed in Sweden. Nowadays, to appear attractive in the eyes of Swedish women, men must be quite tall and thin, with blonde hair, light-colored eyes and sharp cheekbones. Pale skin and some sadness behind those blue eyes are a no-brainer for Swedes.
Turkey
Turkish men have to work hard to be seen as attractive by women. A decent level of fitness is a must, as is meticulously styled hair. Turks are also expected to remove all their chest hair, women here don’t like hairy chests. The interesting thing is that Turkish girls also like the juxtaposition of dark hair and light eyes, so if you meet these criteria, consider yourself genetically lucky.
South Korea
Male beauty criteria in South Korea differ greatly from those of the countries we have analyzed so far. This is the country that rejects toxic masculinity. You won’t see big beefy muscles or thick beards here. On the other hand, men here put a lot of effort into keeping their skin smooth and soft, they also care a lot about fashion and spend a lot of money on popular brands. Things like concealer, eye shadow, and even lip gloss are also highly recommended for men in South Korea. Have you seen K-pop idols? This is what the guys strive for here.
United Kingdom
We could simply say that to impress British women, men have to look like Tom Hiddleston or Benedict Cumberbatch. We are talking about a nice haircut, slim build, preferably tall and not too macho. In fact, girls here like their men to be in touch with their feelings. Attractive Brits are clean shaven or have a light stubble, but full beards are not very popular here. Tattoos are a nice bonus if you want extra attention.
Australia
Australian men are considered some of the most attractive men in the world. Tall, muscular and sun-kissed – what’s not to love? He thinks the surfer knows Thor. However, not all Australians are as genetically talented as Hugh Jackman or the Hemsworth brothers, so they spend a lot of time in the gym to achieve a similar look.
Italy
Italians have to dress to impress. You don’t have to look like a model, but you do need to dress like a movie star. Women here like their men to be elegant and well dressed. Italian men are also no strangers to cosmetic procedures and manicure. Facial hair is popular here, but it needs to be carefully trimmed and wild beards are not allowed.
