Wearing Socks To Bed: 6 Reasons To Start Doing It

Everyone has their own sleeping habits. Some people only sleep in their pajamas, others choose to sleep in oversized t-shirts, and some prefer to sleep naked. But what about your feet? Do you sleep in socks or are you one of those people who thinks it’s crazy, uncomfortable and just plain wrong to wear socks in bed? Well, your preferences are valid, but we’re here to tell you that there are actually quite a few reasons (and dare we call them benefits) to sleep in socks. Read on to find out why it’s a good idea and why you should probably start doing it, or at least try.

1. You will fall asleep faster
If you have difficulty falling asleep, this could be a very good solution for you. Keeping your feet warm by wearing socks will make you fall asleep faster. A 2007 study compared the time it took people to fall asleep with and without socks. Those who wore socks fell asleep much faster than the others.

2. You won’t sweat
Some people wake up in the middle of the night due to hot flashes, others break out in cold sweats in the early hours of the morning. Turns out you can avoid this by simply wearing socks to bed. It is also especially beneficial for those who tend to have cold feet. The socks will warm your feet, which will dilate your blood vessels, helping your blood to circulate efficiently and therefore better regulate your body temperature.

3. You won’t get Raynaud’s attack
Have you ever woken up with a strange stinging sensation in your toes or toes? Raynaud’s attack is related to Raynaud’s disease. What happens is that circulation is lost in certain antennae, often in the fingers and toes, and that causes them to swell and throb. But putting on socks will ensure that your blood vessels dilate and therefore improve your circulation.
